Repton boasts a fine tradition of great tennis players. Our most famous being H F Lawford, Wimbledon champion in 1887, and H W (Bunny) Austin, who twice reached the Wimbledon final in the 1930s.
With a track record of consistently turning out county and national standard players, the School has won the Boysโรรด National Schoolsโรรด Championship 11 times, the Independent Schoolsโรรด Championship 15 times, and the Girlsโรรด National Schools Championship on four occasions.
Repton School runs an extensive tennis program for players of all levels of ability. During the Michaelmas and Lent Terms, there is an Elite Squad who train on a daily basis and have International rankings and travel on the ITF and TE Circuit; a Performance Squad composed of players considered to have the potential to become county / Regional / National standard players; and a Development Squad for players of all ages and abilities who wish to train in the winter.
In the Summer Term, the Elite and Performance Squads continue. Tennis is the main sport for girls at this time and each year group has a full program of practice and inter-school matches. Boysโรรด tennis is also catered for by Senior and Junior Squads which play matches against other schools.
Partnerships with county tennis programs, along with a link to American universities via specialist agencies, have seen not only the UK but the wider world of tennis open up for the Schoolโรรดs alumni.
