Overview

Although Sea Island opened in 1928, it has undergone extensive renovations, making it feel like a new resort. The iconic Cloister was replaced by a more luxurious version on the Black Banks River, alongside new amenities like a 65,000-square-foot spa, tennis complex, and an expansive Beach Club on five miles of private beach. The resort also boasts three championship golf courses, a state-of-the-art golf center, a shooting school, and top-rated children’s programs. Despite the updates, Sea Island remains rooted in tradition, with formal dining and popular events like Bingo night still drawing loyal guests.

Inside the Lines

The Sea Island Tennis Academy offers programs for all skill levels, from Quickstart kids to advanced adults. Social tennis peaks in the summer, but clinics and drills are available daily in spring and fall. The resort features 8 Har-Tru courts at the Cloister, including a sunken stadium, and another 8 courts at Retreat.

Outside the Lines

Sea Island features five miles of salt-and-pepper beach along the Atlantic Coast, bordered by dunes and sea oats. The resort offers three redesigned 18-hole golf courses, including the Seaside, Plantation, and Retreat courses, each with unique landscapes and challenges. Its 65,000-square-foot spa and fitness center includes treatment rooms, an indoor lap pool, and squash courts, while recreation options include horseback riding, fishing, and a shooting school. Sea Island also offers year-round children's programs and a variety of dining options, from casual beachside eateries to the elegant five-star Georgian Room.

Lodging

The Cloister Hotel offers 175 rooms and suites, alongside 1-, 2-, and 3-bedroom Ocean Villas near the Beach Club and spa. An alternative is the 40-room Lodge at Sea Island, located 5½ miles away on St. Simons Island. Additionally, privately-owned Sea Island Cottages range from 3 to 8 bedrooms.

Travel

Sea Island is about 80 miles from Jacksonville International Airport (JAX) in Florida and Savannah International Airport (SAV) in Georgia. The regional Brunswick Golden Isles Airport (BQK) is just 30 minutes away.
