Safety Harbor, a National Historic Landmark, is renowned for its therapeutic natural mineral springs. With a history dating back 2,000 years, the site was named the โ€œSprings of the Holy Spiritโ€ by Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto in 1539. In 1944, Dr. Salem Baranoff transformed it into a health spa, combining the springs with body treatments and accommodations. The resort is currently undergoing a major renovation under new ownership.

Tennis at Safety Harbor is played on five Har-Tru courts overlooking Tampa Bay, with three courts lit for evening play. Directed by Kim Scullion, the program includes group and private lessons, junior clinics, kids' tournaments, and tennis socials. The courts are anchored by a two-story clubhouse with terraces and an air-conditioned pro shop. Court fees are $15 per hour.

The 50,000-square-foot spa at Safety Harbor offers 40 treatment rooms and mineral-spring-fed indoor and outdoor pools for water-fitness programs. Services range from Swedish massages to hydrotherapy, with an outdoor Sanctuary for relaxation. The fitness center includes a cardio theater, weight-training room, Pilates Reformer studio, and a variety of weekly classes like spinning and yoga. Dining options include the Fountain Grille, the Tiki Bar for casual fare, and the La Sardine lobby lounge.

The resort's 175 rooms and suites, located across four buildings, all feature terraces or balconies with views of Tampa Bay.

Open year-round, with peak tennis activity from September to May, Safety Harbor is conveniently located less than 20 minutes from both Tampa and St. Petersburg-Clearwater international airports. From Tampa International (TPA), take Route 60 west, cross the Courtney Campbell Causeway, and turn right on Bayshore; the resort is on your right at the four-way stop. From St. Petersburg-Clearwater International, head north on Route 611, cross the Bayside Bridge, and turn right on Main Street; the resort will be directly ahead.
