Founded in 1936, Smoke Tree Ranch in Palm Springs was a private community until recently, now offering one- and two-room cottages for rent during the Nov. 1-Apr. 30 season. Renowned tennis coach Jose Higueras, head of USTA Player Development, is based there, and while he doesn’t offer private lessons, he occasionally leads special clinics. The ranch features seven hard courts, a junior Olympic pool, a three-hole golf course, hiking trails, and horseback riding stables. Its quiet, family-friendly atmosphere is a unique contrast to other tennis properties in the area.

The main tennis complex features a pro shop and five hard courts, with a shaded patio for viewing the action. Three pros are available, primarily offering private lessons, along with weekly ladiesโ€™ days, clinics, junior clinics, informal tournaments, and social round robins. Across the road are two additional hard courts, two Har-Tru clay courts, and a paddle tennis court near the junior Olympic pool and bowling green. In total, the facility includes 7 hard courts (2 with lights) and 2 clay courts.

The resort offers a three-hole practice golf course and a small fitness room in the tennis clubhouse with cardio and ProFormance exercise stations. Children can enjoy a playground with a treehouse, swings, slides, and a sandbox, with horseback riding available at nearby stables. Organized children's programs are offered during busy weekends and holidays. Dining at the Ranch House Dining Room is central to the social experience, where guests can choose the Full American Plan, enjoying informal meals indoors or by the outdoor fire pit.

Accommodations include single-story cottages spread across the desert landscape, with options as large as five-bedroom suites. Most feature wood-burning fireplaces, flat-screen TVs, internet access, patios, wet bars or kitchenettes, and complimentary parking.
