The ranch, founded in 1968 by former world No. 1 John Newcombe and Trinity University coach Clarence Mabry, is a throwback to the tennis-boom era, offering a unique blend of tennis, camaraderie, and evening social events. The property in Texas Hill Country features 31 courts, a historic ranch house with a pro shop, dining room, and the Billabong Bar, as well as varied accommodations ranging from rooms to cottages. Despite the nearby development, the ranch retains its charm, with sightings of deer and other wildlife adding to the experience.

Phil Hendrie has served as Director of Tennis at John Newcombe Tennis Ranch for over 40 years, coaching players like Lleyton Hewitt, Li Na, and Ryan Harrison, and successfully helping young athletes secure college scholarships. The adult camps focus on stroke basics, with daily sessions combining drills, live ball play, and personalized coaching, often concluding with informal doubles matches. The ranch features 27 hard courts (4 covered) and 4 Har-Tru courts, with no court fees.

The Ranch offers a fitness center near the covered courts, primarily for full-time junior academy students but available to adults. It includes weight machines, cardio equipment, and tennis-specific exercise tools like medicine balls and balance platforms. In case of rain, groups may split between the covered courts and the fitness center. While there’s no spa, a massage therapist is available on call.

Campers can choose from various accommodations near the courts, ranging from simple rooms with two double beds to one- and two-bedroom condos with fireplaces, full kitchens, and washer-dryers.

The ranch is open year-round, with the lowest rates available from November through February. Located on Highway 46 in New Braunfels, Texas, it’s about 30 minutes from San Antonio and 45 minutes from Austin. For those driving from San Antonio, take I-35 North to Loop 337, then follow it to Highway 46 West, and turn left at the large water tower marked "Newks Resort," following signs to the Main Lodge.
