Shadow Mountain, which opened in the late 1940s with one court, has grown into a renowned tennis destination in Palm Springs, now featuring 16 courts, including three clay courts. It is known for excellent game matching, thanks to staff like Karen Haase, and its Desert Tennis Academy, a daily three-hour program led by Caerwyn Evans. Located a few blocks from El Paseo’s shops and restaurants, the resort features flat-roofed condos and revolves around its large figure-8 pool and tennis complex. Shadow Mountain also owns the nearby golf course.

Caerwyn Evans, a former elite junior player from Australia, leads Shadow Mountain's tennis program, bringing his international coaching experience to the Desert Tennis Academy. The academy offers morning and afternoon sessions focused on stroke production and video analysis, often with small student-to-pro ratios for personalized instruction. Beyond camps, the resort hosts clinics for serves, Cardio tennis, and its popular Liveball sessions—a fast-paced doubles game. The 16-court complex, with 10 hard courts and 6 additional courts (including 3 clay), is the focal point of the resort, complemented by a pro shop, small fitness center, and the Courtside Cafe. No court fees apply.

The resort owns the Gene Sarazen-designed 5,418-yard, par-70 Shadow Mountain Golf Club and can arrange tee times for guests, as well as access to other Coachella Valley courses. The small fitness center in the Tennis Clubhouse offers cardio machines, weight training, saunas, and a massage room. In addition to the large figure-8 pool, there are three other pools, a paddle tennis court, pickleball court, basketball court, and grass volleyball court. Dining is available at the Court Cafe and Bar, located on the second floor of the clubhouse, serving breakfast and lunch with views of the pool and courts.

The resort features two-story, flat-roofed condominiums, available in sizes ranging from studios to three bedrooms.

Shadow Mountain is open year-round, but the tennis season runs from October to early May due to the intense summer heat in Palm Springs. During summer, the figure-8 pool is a more popular attraction than the tennis courts.
