The 410-acre Resort at Longboat Key Club spans the southern tip of a barrier island near Sarasota, with Islandside facing the Gulf and Harbourside overlooking Sarasota Bay. Guests stay in 226 rooms and suites at Islandside, which also features eight Har-Tru courts, a spa, a fitness center, and part of the resort’s 45-hole golf course. The main tennis hub is the $4.5 million Tennis Gardens at Harbourside, offering 20 Har-Tru courts, including a 500-seat stadium and a full-service pro shop. This award-winning facility was once home to the Sarasota Open.

Briana Harris Francois became the tennis director at The Resort at Longboat Key Club after previously directing summer camps and teaching adults there. A former WTA satellite tour player, she trained at IMG Academy and Ohio State University before coaching in Sarasota. Francois also founded B. Harris Kids, a free youth tennis and tutoring program for at-risk children in Sarasota. The resort offers a variety of tennis programs, with 20 Har-Tru courts at Harbourside and eight more at Islandside, with no court fees for hotel guests.

The resort sits near the southern end of Longboat Key's 14-mile white-sand beach, offering beach watercraft, lounge chairs, umbrellas, and cabanas. It also features 45 holes of golf, including the 18-hole Links on Longboat course along the Gulf and the 27-hole Harbourside course along Sarasota Bay. The 4,000-square-foot fitness center is located near the Islandside lodging, and the resort also has a beachfront pool and a 291-slip marina. Dining options range from formal at Sands Pointe to casual poolside at Barefoot’s Bar & Grille, with additional choices at Harbourside like Portofino Ristorante and The Tavern & Whiskey Bar.

The resort features seven white concrete towers, ranging from four to 10 stories, surrounding the Resort Center near the Gulf of Mexico beach. While modest in appearance, the spacious rooms are all suites with large balconies or terraces. The best offer beach views, while others overlook the lagoon or golf course. Each room includes a full kitchen, washer-dryer, and internet access.

The resort is open year-round, with peak season from November to April. The nearest airport is Sarasota Bradenton International (SRQ), 9 miles away, with service from national and Canadian airlines. Tampa International Airport (TPA), 72 miles north, is an alternative. Both airports offer rental cars and shuttles.
